PORT MORESBY, July 7 – Papua New Guinea and Samoa will fight out the men’s and women’s touch footy gold medal matches at the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games on Tuesday afternoon.

The PNG women easily accounted for Kiribati 25-1 in its semifinal, with Max Marie bagging four touchdowns while the other semifinal between Samoa and Cook Islands was a nervy affair with Samoa squeaking through 4-3.

Johannes Dame, PNG women’s coach saw no reason to change the way her team has been playing in the final.

“I have confidence the team can beat Samoa if we stick to our running game,” Dame said.

In the men’s competition, the PNG team ran rings around Solomon Islands to win 17-2 while Samoa calmly took care of Cook Islands 9-3.

PNG men’s team manager Ian Yaro said his charges will also stick with the straightforward strategy which brought a 10-7 victory against Samoa in round robin play on Sunday.

“The boys will play a more simple structure and game plan,” Yaro said of the upcoming final against reigning champion Samoa.

A partisan crowd will certainly be expecting two gold medals on Tuesday afternoon at the Bisini Grounds venue.

The women’s final starts at 14:00 and the men’s match at 15:00.

In bronze medal games, Kiribati’s women take on Cook Islands while Solomon Islands meets Cook Islands in men’s competition.
